The Novel Human Genetics Research Unit (NHG RU) was recently formed to identify and advance novel targets with a genetic association to disease based on the foundational observation that targets with human genetic evidence supporting their causal role in the intended indication improves clinical success by two-fold. The NHG RU is therapeutically broad and complements other research units with strategic focus in immunology and oncology. The current portfolio includes assets entering FTIH studies, several programs in either LO or preclinical studies, and a broader effort in target validation, which includes novel targets emerging from the GSK-23andMe collaboration. The remit of the NHG RU is to identify novel targets, develop assets for clinical studies, and perform Phase 1 first time in human and proof of mechanism studies. When successful, assets will progress to Phase 2 and beyond within the GSK Development organization.

We have positions for laboratory-based scientists to conduct integrative pharmacology experiments that drive the discovery of medicines. The scientists will support preclinical efforts for target validation/lead optimization and may also support clinical programs. The grade level and accountabilities will be determined based on the applicant s fit to the specific needs of the research programs and years of experience. Below are details about the available positions:

Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver pharmacology experiments primarily in rodents to support drug discovery programs across multiple therapeutic areas (i.e. pain, neuroscience, cardiovascular, inflammation, metabolism)
  • Experience in methods to measure analgesia, neurodegeneration, cardiac function and/or metabolism
  • Experience in generating, recording, analyzing, and presenting data. Skills in interpreting results and drawing conclusions through independent working and with supervision
  • Able to resolve technical challenges and deliver results efficiently
  • Effective communication (both verbal and written) of scientific ideas and results to internal groups and program teams
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a matrix environment
  • Work under supervision with opportunity to develop greater independence
